Morgan Jamieson is an acclaimed regional Victorian artist based on the southern coast of Australia. Living on the coast, she has a strong connection to her native surroundings which continues to inspire her practice. Art plays a defining role in Morgan’s life, her relationships, and interactions with people. Morgan has travelled extensively, visiting several of the world’s most acclaimed galleries, drawing inspiration from some of history’s greats. Working intuitively, Morgan feels her highest self when experimenting with colour and texture. Her distinctive style conveys authenticity and an intense use of colour and shape from nature’s form. Morgan’s obsession with the science of colour is evident in her work which is described as experimental, clashy, and imperfect. At the age of 16, Morgan was producing and selling art, going on to study and complete a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in graphic design. She then worked as a graphic designer for 12 years before deciding to pursue her career as an artist full time.
Color Play & Petal Form
I like to work in opposites, pairing a murky olive green with a beautiful bubble gum pink, or a cobalt blue with a really dirty orange. I love how colours change when they are layered upon one another. It’s really just a huge experiment! There are certain shapes that I always use as my base layers, large organic shapes that are drawn from florals such as Banksias, dahlias, roses, Echium… anything that has an interesting petal.

On Balancing Intuition & Intention
It’s very much a juggle. I rely on intuition more so when creating work for myself to sell. However, when I am working on a commission, it’s a little more intentional, as my customers have some say in the colour palette and style of artwork that they are after — usually referencing older works to include elements within their piece.
Favorite Color
Pink has an infinite amount of variations, and it can change dramatically by adding some white, yellow, orange, red, or even a dollop of fluorescent pink to give it a life.
Finding Inspiration
I’m a coastal soul at heart — I live, work, and play by the ocean. However, I have never felt more inspired than when I visited New York City. There’s just an invisible energy in that city that I have never felt anywhere else. It’s magnetic, and I know lots of people feel the same way. I loved visiting the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, the Tate Modern in London, and the Dalí Museum in Paris. There’s something very humbling about seeing the work of some of history’s greats in person.
