Virginie Cognet is a French artist and illustrator who chose drawing as a medium after a professional retraining. Self-taught, she first worked as a fashion stylist and then as an artistic director before devoting herself fully to illustration. Her pictorial style is characterized by a colorful, poetic line and a naive lightness. She conceives her works as a remedy for melancholy and a refuge from the agitation of the world. She regularly collaborates with the world of publishing and magazine press, as well as major visual campaigns, brands, and cultural festivals. Her works are frequently exhibited in galleries, two of which are located in Paris.
French artist and illustrator Virginie Cognet creates colorful, poetic artwork filled with flowers, women, birds, and charming everyday details. Her illustrations offer a sense of joy and lightness, making her a beautiful choice for the cover of our Winter issue, The Art of Intention.
With a background in fashion styling and art direction, Virginie eventually found her way to illustration after realizing that her previous career no longer aligned with the life she wanted to create. Today, her distinctive work is celebrated for its vibrant colors, playful compositions, and ability to bring a little beauty and happiness into the everyday.
What makes Virginie's story especially fitting for this issue is her belief in following your intuition, embracing change, and giving yourself the freedom to create a life that feels yours authentically.

Creating a Life in Color
Virginie Cognet's work is filled with recurring subjects inspired by the world around her, from flowers and animals to the women she loves to draw. These familiar elements have become an important part of her artistic identity, bringing a sense of comfort, repetition, and rhythm to her creative process.
But for Virginie, creativity also means allowing room for change. Recently, she began experimenting with oil pastels and new subjects, trusting her instincts even when it meant stepping outside the style she had become known for. That willingness to evolve is something she has learned to embrace throughout her career.
"If you are honest and sincere in your work and truly start from what drives you and defines you, you end up creating something unique and identifiable," she shared with us.
Perhaps one of the loveliest things about Virginie's artwork is the effect it has on others. What began as a deeply personal creative practice has become a source of happiness for people who encounter her illustrations. As she discovered through feedback from her audience, her poetic and sensitive perspective can offer someone a welcome moment of lightness. And isn't that one of the most wonderful things art can do?
